Picking a game for the time you actually have

Picking a game for the time you actually have

June 19, 2026 · Marta Lindqvist

One thing I always ask about a game is: how does it handle being put down? Some games punish you for playing in short bursts, and some are built for exactly that.

For a quick wait, you want instant-on games with no penalty for stopping. Casual tap games and arcade racers fit perfectly — you spin, you race, you lock the phone, done.

For longer stretches, RPGs and strategy games shine because they give you something to sink into. Tideline Command and Emberfall Saga both rewarded the hour I gave them in a way a casual game never could.

The mistake is using the wrong tool for the moment. Opening a story-heavy RPG for a 90-second wait just leaves you mid-cutscene when the bus arrives. Match the game to the gap and everything feels better.
